Beach parking in the Hamptons

Although the beaches in the Hamptons are very beautiful and there seems to be enough parking most of the time, the local towns spend a great deal of time and effort to make parking difficult for visitors.

Residents of the Hamptons buy seasonal beach parking passes from the local towns and these passes are usually completely sold out before the season starts.  These passes are required to park in the lots near the beaches from May 15 to September 15 and the local police monitor this very regularly and ticket violators.

One option for those staying in the Hamptons without a parking permit is to take either an Uber or Lyft to the beach. Both ride hailing apps are well used in the Hamptons, and it is a simple way to get to the beach without worrying about a parking fine.

The Town of Southampton is responsible for beaches from Westhampton to Sagaponack, including North Haven and the eastern side of Sag Harbor.

Village of Southampton handles the seven beaches within its borders. This includes Cooper’s Beach, which often lands on lists of the best beaches in the Hamptons thanks to its beautiful views and a natural shallow area that makes it great for swimming.

The Town of East Hampton monitors most of the South Fork beaches, starting in Wainscott and ending in Montauk.

The Village of East Hampton has five beaches within its borders and sets individual parking policies for each location. Town of East Hampton parking permits are not valid at the village’s beaches, and village permits are not valid at the town’s.

Daily Non-Resident Beach Parking Permits for Main Beach Lot 2 and Two-

Mile Hollow Beach will only be available for purchase online for $50/day, on the

ParkMobile mobile application on beginning May 15 through September 15.

Daily permits are only available Monday through Thursday after 1:00 PM after you have secured a parking space (no prepayments and no refunds). These are digital permits only

and are linked to your license plate number. Parking will be enforced by a license

plate scanner.

NOTE : Daily passes are NOT available on Weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

There is parking available at Hither Hills State Park near Montauk and the daily

rate for parking is $10 (for any day of the week).

Another option is to drive to Montauk and park in the town and go to the beach

there. The town is located very close to the beaches.
